Humpy The Ewok Identity Revealed

Posted by xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on January 8, 2010 at 10:50 AM CST

As you recall, last October NBC's Today Show celebrated Halloween Star Wars-style with the hosts dressed as characters from the franchise. During a segment about Halloween treats, they were joined on the set by two Ewoks, one in particular seized the moment and became an instant legend. Shown drinking adult beverages, dancing, moon walking, and rubbing up and down on Al Rokers leg, this wild little fur ball won the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere. Lovingly dubbed "Humpy The Ewok" by The ForceCast, the Endor native has gone on to become the subject of song and video tributes. There are even "Humpy The Ewok" sketch cards created for Topps Star Wars Galaxy Series 5 by noted Star Wars artist Randy Martinez! Now, we learn the name of the talent behind the magic courtesy of YouTube.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to introduce Alex Sotomayor, aka "Uchita". This Peruvian performer is a featured player on Univisions The Don Francisco Show and shot scenes in last years film Everybody's Fine with Robert DeNiro. "Uchita" is known as "The Pint Sized Michael Jackson" for obvious reasons and I think once you see his moves, you will have little doubt that he and "Humpy" are one and the same.

The spanish-language website, Terra.com, interviewed "Uchita" last year to shed some light on the man destined to become "Humpy The Ewok":

Four years ago Alex Sotomayor left the country and went to New York where he became the famous little Michael Jackson, a personality he imitates and with which he has conquered the United States.

Having been on many TV programs in Lima like Risas y Salsa, Risas de America, La Chola Chabuca and others, he received an offer to travel to the US, and without thinking twice about it, he went over there and he began working the streets imitating the King of Pop.

"The first time I went out on the street I heard a woman say it was the first time she had ever seen a little Michael Jackson, then I began to perfect my style and every time more and more people came to watch." Said Alex, known as "Uchita" on the weekly show Punto Final.

His success later came after the same people that saw him posted the video footage of him on You Tube and then when Robert De Niro called him to do a film and also when Don Francisco put him on his TV program.

At age 32 and 3.59 feet tall, Alex, born in Apurimac and who previously worked as a stripper, today spends his days performing on the streets of New York, visiting this and that TV show or night club and enjoying his success.

Now that the man behind the mask has been revealed, maybe an invite to Celebration V isn't far behind?

Thanks to faithful ForceCast listener Rik Byatt for bringing the video to my attention. Also thanks to Luis Carlos Araujo and Denise Vasquez for helping me translate some of the all-spanish research I uncovered. Muchas Gracias!
