The ForceCast Weight Loss Plan

Posted by xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on September 21, 2009 at 12:24 PM CST

A perfect day for me is an early morning workout followed by an afternoon of Star Wars geekiness. I always feel my best after a workout and I find that as I get older, its more important than ever to move those muscles. Its so easy to settle down with a quality Star Wars comic, DVD or book, but dangerous if you are not keeping yourself in shape. Same thing goes with being hunched over a computer all day. Now, I do not wanna be preachy, but thats just how it is. SO, how does a Star Wars fan find time to stay in shape while satisfying fanboy needs simultaenously? For starters, an iPod is always a great thing. I find Star Wars Breakbeats is certainly treadmill worthy (www.suckadelic.com), Or, you can listen to the John Williams soundtracks and let your mind drift off to the Galaxy Far, Far Away while watching the pounds melt, melt away. Try listening to Star Wars audiobooks from www.Audible.com/tfn. Or, I know of a little Star Wars podcast that makes time fly too! Check out this feedback from loyal listener Jeff who has devised The ForceCast Weight Loss Plan!

The reason I'm writing is to tell you about my Force Cast Weight Loss Plan. On my daughters birthday last May (2009), I realized that I really needed to start getting back in shape. I started walking 10 miles a day and watching what I eat. Histroically, I have hated exercising due to the sheer amount of time involved and getting bored. However, I just wanted to let you guys know that I now look forward to my evening exercise ritual.

The reason is the Force Cast. I look forward to getting my Star Wars fix from you guys and it really makes the 10 miles zip by. I especially like the weeks with the weekly Force Cast, MicroCasts, and Round Tables. That way I can listen just about every night to what I believe is an AWESOME podcast. The Force Cast is both fun and informational.

Your podcast has helped me lose 50 pounds in 3 months and has gotten me back in touch with my inner geek (whick I am proud of). I find myself slowly starting to get back into collecting, but no where near what it used to be.

Just wanted to say thanks for keeping my mind occupied while I try to get back in shape.

Keep up the good work and thanks for putting out such a quality podcast on some of my favorite movies ever.

Thanks,
Jeff Minch

Congrats Jeff! I have to admit that I have been known to crank up episodes of A Galaxy of Music while pumping iron. Star Wars songs and tributes can get you fired up for a great workout!

So now we have our iPods ready, its now time for the workout. Where to start? Can I recommend the Jedi Workout at AskMen.com? Learn the proper way to do Rancor Stops, Space Slug Boosts, and Force Jumps! I keep threatening to do this workout and record it for ForceCast listeners. Maybe I can get Wendy to do the play-by-play....

My boys and Wendy study Shotokan Karate and I can tell you, working out with them will knock the wind outta ya even if you are already in good shape. Martial arts can be the most demanding of all workouts because you use your mind and muscles together. One group has received a lot of attention for their attempts to combine Star Wars and martial arts are The New York Jedi. This group uses Master Replica and EFX sabers to create saber duels incorporating martial arts disciplines. They have been featured on network television, newspapers, and even the sword-fighting documentary, Reclaiming The Blade. You can check out what their deal is at NewYorkJedi.com.

Another ForceCast listener who has used the show to motivate himself for a huge athletic challenge is listener Ron. Check it out!

My name is Ron and I am a big fan of the Force-cast. I am not a big presence at the forums or the live show, but I do listen to the podcast every weekend.

In 2007 I finished my first marathon, and in part my training was successful because I listened to the podcast for hours during the long trainings. Thanks for the great programs.

Way to go Ron!

Running marathons, practicing martial arts, and participating in Jedi workouts will make your frame Stormtrooper lean and keep you wife happy too! Try not to let things spin outta control like this sad sap who is desperate to squeeze his oversized girth into Stormtrooper armor!

To show you how I motivate myself sometimes prior to a Jedi Workout, check out the pics Wendy snapped right before a recent trip to the health club. Sometimes you gotta get in the zone prior to hitting the gym!!!

Pre-Jedi Workout

So I encourage all ForceCast listeners to join me in training for fandom. No Jabbas allowed. Pretend you are Luke running on Dagobah with Yoda on your back, or Han outrunning troopers on The Death Star! Whatever it takes to motivate you will work! Ya never know...You may someday find yourself frozen in a block of carbonite so you will wanna be in peak physical form! By the way, is it just me or did Han Solo actually GAIN weight by the time he was released from his carbonite cage in RoTJ? Hmmm...
